How to Keep Yourself Healthy during Home QuarantineHow to Keep Yourself Healthy during Home Quarantine

It’s no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant changes to our lifestyles. To minimize exposure to others, people are practicing social distancing and are spending most of their hours staying at home.

But, even though self-isolation can help you steer clear from the disease, it’s important to accept that being under quarantine also has its share of difficulties.

Being cooped up at home all day makes it easy for you to lose track of your routine and habits. While you may be able to keep COVID-19 at bay, you may also end up taking your health for granted by not getting enough sleep and mismanaging your diet.

If you want to maintain your physical wellness during this period, the guide below will discuss different things you can do to stay healthy.

1). Follow a routine

As you deal with the effects of the pandemic, it’s incredibly easy to embrace chaos and spend most of your waking hours just going through the motions. Even though you don’t have to get up extra early to prepare breakfast and commute to the office, this doesn’t mean that you should stop following a routine.

With this in mind, it’s best to establish a schedule to provide your day some structure. Taking note of all your responsibilities (from your work requirements to your household demands) and setting enough time to handle each one will allow you to remain productive during the lockdown.

2). Find a doable workout program

Following a workout program can be extremely valuable during this period. Not only does it give your week some structure, but it’s also the most effective way to boost your immune system and prevent health complications such as heart disease.

Fortunately, there are tons of programs available online that you can follow at your own convenience.

In case you want to take bigger steps towards fitness, acquiring the services of an online coach can also be an incredibly valuable investment.

3). Cook and eat healthy meals

Cooking is an all in one activity: it keeps you busy and can also be a great bonding experience for everyone in your household. However, it’s important to be mindful of the things you eat since the pandemic may cause you to consume way more than you usually would.

When faced with stressful situations, keep in mind that a lot of people have binge eating and snacking as their primary coping mechanisms.

You may be safe from the virus at home, but you may end up compromising your health in other ways if you’re not following a balanced diet.

Making your wellness a priority has its share of rewards, so make sure to prepare healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

4). Drink lots of water

Staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining your overall health. Drinking the right fluids ensures that all of your body’s systems are getting enough nutrients to operate.

At the same time, water plays a huge role in flushing out harmful toxins.

Health experts recommend that at least eight servings of 8-ounce glasses (2 liters) of water a day. If you want to add a little twist to your beverage, adding a slice of lemon, cucumber, or berries will freshen up your drink.

5). Get enough sleep

The stress and lifestyle changes brought upon by COVID-19 may negatively impact your sleep schedule.

Lack of sleep doesn’t only compromise your body’s ability to fight off infections; it can also affect your mood and cognition throughout the day.

Regardless of what your schedule may look like, you have to make sure that you’re getting at least 8 hours of good quality sleep a day.

In case you’re having trouble falling asleep, adopting good sleeping habits and following a bedtime ritual will allow you to dose off easily.

6). Write in a journal

Don’t forget to take care of your mental health, as well. In these challenging times, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and feel like things are only getting worse.

When faced with a stressful situation, setting a few minutes of your day for some quiet time can make a huge difference. Writing in a journal before bed can be an extremely valuable habit.

People who make entries regularly can organize their thoughts with more clarity and are able to stay in control of their emotions.

It’s an incredibly powerful tool for self-reflection, and making it a point to write every few days can even help you become a better version of yourself.
